Abstract :
Residents in Kampung Malang Surabaya has to improve preparedness in a fire disaster. Fire disaster can be prevented by awareness of any potential that causing fire, to improve resident's awareness required identification of several factors affects residents preparedness in each region. The purpose of this study was to explain the preparedness differences between residents in Kampung Malang Surabaya who receive counseling and non-counseling in fire disaster management. Methods: This research was non-experimental with a comparative descriptive study. This study involved 110 respondents using the purposive sampling technique. The independent variables of this study were knowledge about the fire stations, knowledge about fire extinguisher, the access road, caution and evacuation, support of public figures, and support of firefighters. The dependent variables were preparedness in fire disaster management. Instruments used was a questionnaire of factors affecting fire disaster preparedness and a disaster preparedness parameter questionnaire. Analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U Test. Results: The results showed there was a significant difference in knowledge about fire stations (p=0,009), the access road (p=0,029), support of public figures (p=0,04). Conclusion: There is no difference in knowledge about fire extinguishers, caution and evacuation, and support of firefighters. But there are differences in knowledge about the fire station, access road, and support of public figures.
