Abstract :
This study aimed to detect of invA virulence gene of multidrug resistant Salmonella sp. isolated from cloacal swab of broiler chickens in Blitar District, East Java Province using the Kirby Bauer Disk Diffusion and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) methods. Cloacal swab samples were taken by purposive sampling from fifteen farms in four districts, namely: Ponggok, Garum, Selopuro, and Selorejo. Isolation and identification of bacteria using selective Salmonella Shigella Agar (SSA) media and biochemical tests. Confirmation of multidrug resistance (MDR) isolates was carried out using five classes of antibiotics, including the beta-lactam class of amoxycillin antibiotics, the aminoglycoside group of gentamicin antibiotics, the fluoroquinolone group of the ciprofloxacin antibiotic, the phenicol group the chloramphenicol antibiotic, and the monobactam group of the antibiotic aztreonam. The results of this study indicated a positive sample for Salmonella sp. found as many as 32.26% (50/155). Salmonella sp. isolates has been detected to show resistant to the antibiotics amoxycillin (44%), gentamicin (24%), ciprofloxacine (46%), chloramphenicol (12%), and aztreonam (0%), and seven out of 50 Salmonella sp. isolates were detected as multidrug resistant. An important finding in this study was the detection of invA virulence gene in all seven isolates (100 %) of multidrug resistant Salmonella sp. from cloacal swab of broiler chickens in Blitar Regency, East Java Province
