Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to detect the percentage of Newcastle Diasease (ND) virus in kampong chickens sold in the Klagen Serut market and Sambirejo Market, Jiwan District, Madiun Regency. 20 samples was taken from kampong chickens’ trachea and cloaca using swab method. Samples taken were then inoculated into Embryonic Chicken Eggs (TAB) aged 9-11 days which were Specific Antibody Negative (SAN). Eggs were incubated at 37oC for 1-5 days. Newcastle Disease virus detection is checked by Hemagglutination (HA) and Hemagglutination Inhibition (HI) test. The positive HA test result is that there is hemagglutination in the form of grains like sand at the bottom of the plate. If the HA test is positive, the HI test is continued to identify the virus. A positive HI test is seen when there is a flow of red blood cells. The results of this study from the swab Trachea and the swab kampong chicken cloaca samples showed 0% positive samples from 20 samples that had been taken from both markets.
