Abstract :
The aim of the research was to find out The effect of inhalation Jasminum Sambac essential oil in anxiety mice model. Whether this essential oil has anxiolytic-like effect if it was inhaled by mice (Mus musculus). Experiment design was using Completely Randomized Design. This study was using 20 mice ranging 3-6 months old with 25-35 grams body weight which were tested in the Elevated Plus-Maze (EPM) test. Mice were put in EPM one by one and observed for five minutes. Observation done for four parameters, they are numbers of entries into open arms (EOA), Numbers of entries into closed arms (ECA), Spent time into open arms (TOA), Spent time into closed arms (TCA). These 20 mice were divided into five treatment groups they are negative control group (K-) that was treated by 1 mg/kg of saline intraperitoneally, positive control group (K+) that was treated by 1 mg/kg of diazepam intraperitoneally, inhalation at the doses of 100 μL, (P1), inhalation 200 μL (P2), and inhalation 400 μL(P3). The data analyzed using the One Way Anova test if its eligible followed with Duncan Test. However if it's not eligible then a non-parametric test Kruskal Wallis used followed with Mann Whitney test. The normality test result showed distribution data for the open arm entry (EOA) and the time in the open arm (TOA) were not normal so, Kruskal Wallis test was used. The Kruskal Wallis tests showed there was significant difference (p < 0.05) in numbers of entries into open arms (EOA), and Spent time into open arms (TOA), continued with the Mann-Whitney test inhalation of 200 μL (P2), and 400 μL (P3) had an effect on EOA and TOA. While the One Way Anova test for ECA and TCA indicate no difference. Based on this research, it could be concluded that inhalation Jasminum Sambac essential oil in anxiety mice has anxiolytic-like effect but did not affect spontaneous locomotor of mice. However, further studies are needed on its use in the treatment of anxiety in animal.
