Abstract :
Pegagan is a plant that widely used as a basic ingredient in traditional medicine. The pegagan plant has chemical compounds such as tannins, saponins, flavonoids, steroids and alkaloids. The purpose of this study was to determine the antidiarrheal activity of pegagan (Centella asiatica L.) leaves against mice (Mus muculus) induced by oleum ricini. The ethanol extract of pegagan leaves was obtained by maceration. Positive control used loperamide, negative control used Na-CMC. The test was carried out on 25 male white mice orally, divided into 5 groups with 5 mice in each group. Before treatment, mice were fasted for 12 hours, induced using oleum ricini. After being induced for 2 hours, the mice were given pegagan leaf extract at a dose of 1.773 mg/kgBW, a dose of 3,564 mg/kgBW, a dose of 7.092 mg/kgBW, loperamide and Na-CMC, the parameters tested for 5 hours were the onset of diarrhea, stool weight, frequency of diarrhea and duration of diarrhea. The results of the observations were analyzed statistically with the Kruskal Wallis Test to determine the significant differences in each test group, then continued with the Man Whitney Test to determine the value of the different groups. The results showed that 96% ethanol extract of pegagan leaf had antidiarrheal activity at a dose of 3,546 mg/kgBW, which was the most effective dose in giving mice the longest response time to diarrhea. Keywords: pegagan leaf, antidiarrheal, Centella asitica.
