Abstract :
Banana peel (Musa acuminata Colla) is a waste from processing bananas that can be used as materials from nature for traditional treatments such as lowering uric acid levels. The purpose of this research is observe the antihyperuricemia activity of banana peels extract for balb-c male mice. For testing the antihyperuricemia activity of the extract, as many as 25 male mice balb-c strain was divided into 5 groups. Each group was made hyperuricemia by induction of chicken liver juice for 18 days and administration of potassium oxonate intra peritoneally on the 9th day before the pre-treatment blood collection. During treatment period for the negative control was given CMC Na 0.5%, the positive control was given allopurinol 0.26 mg/20g BW and 3 treatment control were given extracts with a dose of 2.5 mg/20g BW, 5 mg/20g BW, 10 mg/20g BW. On the 19th day blood collection was carried out for post-treatment results and measurement of data for uric acid levels was carried out by an enzymatic method then absorbance was read using a Biolyzer 100 photometer and wavelength 546 nm. The results of measurement of serum uric acid levels indicated that each extract dose can reduce uric acid levels. All three doses were significantly different from positive or negative controls (sig.<0.05). The three extract doses also didn?t show a significant difference from each dose, but the 2.5 m /20g BW dose was more effective in reducing uric acid levels which reached 44.69%. This study concluded that banana peel extract has anti-hyperuricemic activity Keywords: Banana peel extract, antihyperuricemia, uric acid levels
