Abstract :
Nule Wilhelmina. ANALYSING THE STUDENTS VOCABULARY MASTERY USING
PICTURES OF THE SECOND GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN NEONBAT KEFAMENANU
This research was aim to find out the improvement of students’ vocabulary
mastery after teaching and learning by using pictures. The result of the research
are useful for the teacher and students. The population of this research was the
eight grade of SMP Negeri Neonbat Kefamenanu. The sample was one class that
is VIII B consist of 28 students. The sampling technique in this research used
cluster random sampling. In collecting the data, the researcher used instrument in
form vocabulary test which consist of multiple choice, post-test and pre-test.
In addition, the result post-test 2.205 and pre-test 59,28. After
determining the mean score of post-test (xᵌ) was 75,67 and standard deviation of
the post-test was 12,43.the presentage of the students score in post-test that there
were 12(42,85) classified as very good, there were 8 (28,57) classified a good,
there were 3 (10,71) classified as poor, and there was not classified as very poor.
The writer concludes that before taught by using picture in the classroom, the
students’ ability in vocabulary mastery is still low. There are still many students
who have low vocabulary mastery and many students who do not know the
meaning of some vocabulary in English and do not know the way of pronouncing
words correctly.
