Abstract :
The aim of this research was conducted to improve vocabulary using
flashcards of second grade students of SMP Negeri Maubeli in the School year
2021/2022. This research was categorized into class Action Research (CAR).
The steps of the research were, planning, action , observation and reflection.
The data were in the form of quantitative data. The participants of this research
were the second grade students at SMP Negeri Maubeli. the total were 20
students chosen as the subject. There were two types of instruments that were
used in this study, a test and non- test.Non-test instruments include interview
guidelines and observation checklist. The test instruments includes the pre-test
and post-test. The result of this research showed that flashcards can improve
the students vocabulary. It was proven by the mean score of each test. . It can
be seen from the mean score of the students in pre-test 50.25 to 93.35 in posttest. The gained score between the mean of pre-test and post-test was 43,1. It
indicated that the student’s achievement was satisfactory enough. The research
also showed indicators that the use of flashcards to improve students’
vocabulary was effective. and also flashcards could make the students more
active in teaching learning process. It can be seen from the observation during
the learning process; the students gave positive response and paid high
attention to the teachers’ explanation. The classroom situation became active
and interactive because they enjoyed and they were motivated in teaching
learning process. In conclusion, flashcards can improve the students’
vocabulary for the second grade students of SMP Negeri Maubeli.
