Abstract :
This study discusses the differences in non-verbal and verbal
communication patterns between sellers and buyers in the Kranji Traditional
Market and the Harapan Indah Modern Market. This study uses analysis and
observation techniques where researchers see and observe when buyers and
traders interact in price bargaining, verbal communication, and non-verbal
communication, until they find an agreement in the transaction.
This study answers a gap that was questioned by the researcher through
the formulation of the problem. In this study, data obtained from interviews with
relevant sources in the field between how many sellers and buyers are in each
market. In the traditional market, bargaining has become part of the layers of the
market, it has even become the culture of the Indonesian people. This is different
from the modern market where there is no bargaining in the interaction at the
time of the transaction.
The two markets have different norms in terms of culture, so that if the
traditional market can bargain during the transaction, it is different from the
modern market there is no bargaining. Therefore, traditional markets have a
mutual agreement, between the seller and the buyer. And it does not apply to
modern markets where there is no mutual price agreement between the seller and
the buyer.
