Abstract :
The development of technology in the industrial world is currently progressing very rapidly, with such conditions, of course, steps are needed to be able to maintain the sustainability of each line of industry. In this case, it is necessary to review the performance of the machine used to optimize and avoid energy wastage. One of the utility equipment or machines used in the production process at PT.X is a Boiler. Boiler (steam boiler) is a device or high pressure vessel used to heat water to produce hot steam or steam. Heat loss in the boiler is one of the important factors that greatly influence to identify the efficiency of the boiler. This results in a lot of losses so that it has an impact on economic and productivity factors, where it is known that the temperature of the flue gas in the chimney produced from the steam boiler is still high between 200-300°C. One of the repair methods that can be done to utilize heat energy from the exhaust gases from boiler combustion is to install a heat exchanger or economizer. This study aims to determine the performance of the boiler with the use of an economizer and to determine the fuel consumption of the boiler. The methodology used is a survey method where research data is obtained from daily records of fire tube boiler operations. After the calculation, the efficiency of the boiler with the use of an economizer is 89% while the efficiency of the boiler without the use of the economizer has an efficiency value of 81%, so that the use of the economizer can save fuel consumption of 18 m³/h with an average fuel consumption of 271 m. /h.
