Abstract :
The strength of the welded connection is very influential on the quality of the welded joint and the requirements of a standard construction, especially the construction in the oil and gas industry such as piping. This study aims to determine the tensile strength (tensile strength) and the value of Vickers hardness (Vickers hardness) of BRASCO copper pipe welding joints 3/4 inch x 1.07mm ASTM B819 Type-L Medical by using the oxy-acetylene welding process and using a neutral flame. The borax used is silver brazing flux and the filler used is Harris 0 Silver Brazing and the welding position used is 1G. The cooling used uses ambient air. From the tensile strength test results, the average value for raw material specimens is 277.1 MPa and broken in the base metal, welded connection specimens without borax are 265.6 MPa and broken at HAZ, and welded joint specimens with borax are 268.6 MPa and break in the base metal. For this reason, the effectiveness of the tensile test value of welded joints with borax only increased by 3.0 MPa or 1.1%. While the average results of the three specimens on the hardness test (hardness vikers) on the raw material specimen is 128.98 HV, the welded connection specimen without borax is 77.58 HV and the welded joint specimen with borax is 77.00 HV. The effectiveness of the use of borax on the hardness value only increased by 0.74% compared to the welded joint specimen without borax.
