Abstract :
AISI 4340 material is known as HSLA (High Strength Low Alloy) material. This material belongs to medium carbon steel with a low alloy of Ni-Cr and Mo. AISI 4340 steel has good properties in terms of impact resistance and abrasion resistance. In the automotive industry, the material needed is a material that has high hardness and is wear-resistant because most of the automotive components rub against each other. Efforts are being made to meet the needs of these materials, namely the process of diffusing nitrogen elements to the surface of the material. The addition of nitrogen elements into the aluminum matrix composite material is carried out with the aim of increasing the hardness of the material. The nitriding process with the plasma technique is one of the surface treatments of a material. The results of the hardness test of plasma nitriding with temperature parameters of 350°C, 420°C and 500°C with tests at thicknesses of 0.02mm, 0.2mm and 0.4mm. The hardness of the material at a temperature of 350°C with a depth parameter of 0.02mm is 362.32 HV, a depth parameter of 0.2mm is 261.99 HV and a depth parameter of 0.4mm is 235.64 HV. material at a temperature of 420 °C with a depth parameter of 0.02mm of 368.19 HV, a depth parameter of 0.2mm of 274.92 HV and a depth of 0.4mm of 256.92 HV. The hardness of the material at a temperature of 500 °C with a depth parameter of 0.02mm is 435.62 HV, a depth parameter of 0.2mm is 273.02 HV and a depth parameter of 0.4mm is 273.02 HV. The results of testing the thickness of the coating on the plasma nitriding process with a temperature of 350°C of 13.80, a temperature of 420°C of 17.66 and a temperature of 500°C of 17.46.
