Abstract :
ABSTRACT The human need for electrical energy sources for each year continues to increase. In fact, electricity in Indonesia has not yet fully flowed to all regions, especially in remote areas. Conventional energy such as fossil fuels, coal, and gas are still the main materials of choice as an energy source. But the supply provided by nature continues to dwindle and decrease in number. Therefore, several experts from various countries are competing to create alternative energy to replace conventional energy sources that can be used as electrical energy. This study aims to determine the effect of the variation of the u-type blade angle on the efficiency of the Savonius turbine. This research uses a savonius turbine with a simple u-type terraced blade with variations in the blade angle, namely 0°, 30°, and 60°. Testing data retrieval from each variation of blade height was carried out 5 times at each wind speed of 3.8 m/s, 4.5 m/s and 5.3 m/s and then the average value was taken. From this research, the result is that a savonius wind turbine with a blade angle variation of 0° produces a maximum efficiency value of 18.46% at a wind speed of 5.3 m/s. The savonius wind turbine with a blade angle variation of 30° produces a maximum efficiency value of 17.80% at a wind speed of 5.3 m/s. The savonius wind turbine with a blade angle variation of 60° produces a maximum efficiency value of 16.98% at a wind speed of 5.3 m/s. The maximum efficiency value produced by the multilevel U-blade Savonius wind turbine is found in the variation of the 0° blade angle with a wind speed of 5.3 m/s, which is 18.46%.
