Abstract :
This study aims to describe the speech act type that main character used in Beowulf movie and the classification and function of the speech act in Beowulf movie. The instruments used in this study are the movie and the Beowulf 2007movie script text which contains an understanding of speech acts in the study of Pragmatic theory. Data collection method is usingdocumentation technique and note-taking techniques. In the data, the analysis method used is discourse analysis. The results of this study indicate that there it can be concluded that author found these speech act type which are: a). Locutionary Act; b) Illocutionary Act; and c) Perlocutionary Act with function as For the function, these are the function that been found; a). Statement, b) Question, c) Request, d) Command and e) Exclamation.
