Regrisa, R. 2019. Investigating Student Teachers? Experience at English Private Tutoring. Thesis. English Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Universitas Jambi. The first supervisor: Sri Wachyunni, S.S., M. Hum., M.A., Ph.D. The second supervisor: Eddy Haryanto, S.Pd., M.Sc.Ed., M.PP., Ph.D. Key Words: Student Teachers, Young Learners, Tutoring, Private Tutoring. This research is aimed to understand the student teachers? experiences in tutoring young learners at English private tutoring. The participants are student teachers in the 4th, 6th, and 8th semester at English Department of Universitas Jambi from academic years 2017, 2016, and 2015. The method is Descriptive Qualitative. The data collected from online demographic questionnaires and through semi-structured interviews via telephone, and face to face. The results of participants? experience in preparation for tutoring are the participants design the tutoring plans by gaining information of their students in the first day, providing materials by considering the students? English book at school, and media to do tutoring such as flashcard, picture, smartphone and laptop. Then, the participants divide tutoring activities into ice-breaking by asking the students? condition, serve homework consultation in intensive tutoring, and playing games together before closing, also doing an assignment afterward. The participants make monthly or after several materials to do exam as evaluation to know their young learners' achievements. Lastly, participants? external challenges in tutoring English to young learners are influenced from young learners? characteristics. Then, there is no English subject at school, and young learners? acceptance toward the materials. However, the most internally challenging is their ability to manage the tight schedules between college and working.
