Abstract :
The aim of this research is to describe the speech style used by the teachers in movies. The theories used in this research are the theories by Joos (1997) about speech style, and by Hymes (1975) about context that influences speech style. This search is a descriptive qualitative one that uses the transcripts of the three movies as the instrument. The movies are Dead Poets Society, Dangerous Minds, and Freedom Writers. Hie result shows that the dominant speech style used by the teachers in that movies is consultative style. The purpose of using this style is to give opportunity to the students to participate in the learning process.
