Abstract :
The purpose of this study to determine the type of positive politeness strategy used by teacher and students in Teaching English to the tenth grade students of SMAN 2 Poso. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The location of the research is Sman 2 Poso class 10 IPA 1, on March to April 2020. Source of Data was the teacher and the students of tenth grade at SMAN 2 Poso. The Technique of Data Collecting are observation, interview and documentation. The Data Analyzed in descriptive way. The Finding of the research obtained that the Positive Politeness Strategy used by the Teacher in Teaching English was 15 Strategies consist of strategy 1 with 1 utterances, strategy 2 with 1 utterances,strategy 4 with 7 utterances,strategy 5 with 6 utterances, strategy 6 with 1 utterances, strategy 7 with 2 utterances, strategy 8 with 12 utterances, strategy 9 with 2 utterances, strategy 10 with 2 utterances, strategy 11 with 2 utterances, strategy 12 with 7 utterances, strategy 13 with 1 utterances, strategy 15 with 3 utterances, and the dominating strategy is strategy 8 (joke.) with 12 utterances. The Positive Politeness Strategy used by the Students in Learning English were 3 Strategies consist of, strategy 5 with 3 utterances, and the dominating strategy is strategy 5 Seek agreement (repetition) with 3 utterances.
