Abstract :
This research entitled ?Tomoe?s Education System as Treatment for ADHD Portrayed on The Main Character, Totto-chan in Totto-chan, The Girl at The Window by Tetsuko Kuronayagi? aims to find out how educational system in Tomoe Gakuen influences the main character, Totto-chan. It also explains the educational system in Tomoe Gakuen. Besides, this research also explains the type of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) of Totto-chan. This research uses qualitative method in analyzing the data. The dialogues and narrations from the novel are the primary data of this research. These data will be classified into: ADHD symptoms using ADHD concept based on DSM IV, proper education for ADHD based on U.S Department of Education and the Totto-chan?s changes using Psychology in Literature by Wellek and Warren. In addition, several book, journal, and articles related to the topic are used to support the analysis of the data. The result of this research shows that Totto-chan had combined ADHD symptoms, but her behavior and attention became better after she entered Tomoe Gakuen. Additionally, Tomoe Gakuen applies the proper education for ADHD student. Thus, the educational system in Tomoe Gakuen influences Totto-chan, the main character.
