Abstract :
Infrastructure growth in the world in the last few decades has developed significantly which has led to an increase in consumption of material needs. One of the most common materials used in industry and construction today is concrete. However, one of the constituent materials of concrete, namely coarse aggregate or crushed rock, has since experienced a decrease in its availability in nature. In order for the sustainability of concrete infrastructure development to continue, along with the increasing demand for aggregate in the construction industry, an alternative effort is needed to reduce the use of natural aggregates. One of them is by producing artificial aggregates through geopolymerization techniques. Geopolymer itself is a reaction between materials that have a high content of silica and alumina such as fly ash with an alkaline activator. Based on the above, it is necessary to carry out further research related to the substitution of natural aggregates with geopolymer-made aggregates produced by the crushing technique in concrete mixtures which will make concrete have a lower specific gravity than conventional concrete. This study aims to analyze and understand the effect of fly ash-based geopolymer-made aggregates using the crushing technique on the mechanical properties of concrete. In this study it was found that concrete with fly ash-based geopolymer-made aggregate substitution using the crushing method produced an average compressive strength of 17.967% lower and an average tensile strength of 22% lower than the normal concrete. With details of the numbers on the results of the compressive strength sequentially 3 days and 28 days, namely on normal concrete of 18.327 MPa and 28.976 MPa, while the results of compressive strength on concrete crushing are 15.018 MPa and 23.418 MPa. As well as the results of the tensile strength test sequentially for 3 days and 28 days, namely on normal concrete of 2.280 MPa and 2.917 MPa, where the tensile strength results on crushing concrete are smaller, namely 1.782 MPa and 2.323 MPa.
