Abstract :
Every hospital activity must meet agreed medical standards, including sterilization of the use of medical devices. With the dry heat sterilization method in the oven, a sterilization machine is needed that can be easily carried in a portable form. The use of wire coils as heat conductors is needed to make sterilization machines, where the larger the diameter of the coil can reduce the power used and the smaller the diameter of the coil can accelerate temperature changes in the coil. This research was carried out by assembling a sterilization machine with various components needed so that measurements can be made of voltage, current, time to reach sterile temperatures and calculation of the power produced. In making portable medical device sterilizers, the use of coil wires with diameters of 0.8 mm, 1 mm, 1.2 mm, and 1.3 mm has been tested as a trigger for hot temperatures in machines where the coil wire with a diameter of 0.8 mm is able to provide the best results than other coil wire diameters. Of the four variations in coil wire diameter, coil wire with a diameter of 0.8 mm produces a maximum value with a voltage of 56.2 volts, an electric current of 4.08 Amperes, and the fastest heating time of 18.51 minutes. This is appropriate based on the relationship between diameter and resistance where the smaller the diameter, the greater the resistance value in a circuit which can affect the value of current and voltage flowing. The largest power value comes from a 0.8 mm diameter coil wire rated at 114.64 Watts. This is based on the correlation between the power value, the voltage and current value, that is, the greater the current value, the greater the power value produced. The smallest power value comes from a coil wire with a diameter of 1.3 mm valued at 19.31 Watts.
