Abstract :
Ethanol extract of temu ireng rhizome (Curcuma aeruginosa Roxb.) contains many efficacious secondary metabolites, one of which is flavonoid, phenolic, and curcuminoid. The compound is thought to have the potential to be gastroprotective. This research aimed to determine the effect of differences in the dose of ethanol extract of temu ireng rhizome as gastroprotective on the evaluation parameters of gastric mucosal lesions, volume, pH, and total acidity of gastric juices, as well as gastric mucin levels. This gastroprotective activity test used 30 mice divided into 6 groups consisting of normal groups, positive control (Omeprazole 20 mg / kgBB), negative control (NaCMC 0.5%), treatment I (Extract 100 mg / kgBB), treatment II (Extract 200 mg / kgBB), and treatment III (Extract 400 mg / kgBB). The treatment in this test was carried out for 14 days, then induction was carried out with absolute ethanol on day 15. The total levels of flavonoids, phenolics, and curcuminoids contained in ethanol extract of temu ireng rhizomes were respectively 24,181 mgQE/g, 43,617 mgGAE/g, 8,823 mgCE/g extract. Based on the results of histopathological analysis and ulcer index, it was shown that ethanol extract of temu ireng rhizomes was able to provide a significant protective effect against absolute ethanol compared to negative controls. A dose of 400 mg/KgBB of ethanol extract of temu ireng rhizome provided the best gastroprotective effect with an ulcer index of 6.99 and a prevention index of 39.41.
