Abstract :
Diarrhea is a disease that causes high morbidity and mortality. Based on the profile of the Palembang City Health Office, it is known that the incidence of diarrhea at the Makrayu Health Center is still relatively high. Ilir Barat II District is a mild slum area consisting of lowlands and most of it is on the outskirts of the Musi River. The aim of the study was to analyze the relationship between basic household sanitation and exclusive breastfeeding on the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers in the Working Area of the Makrayu Health Center in Palembang City in 2022. This research is a quantitative study with a cross sectional design. The population in the study were all toddlers aged 0-59 months in the working area of the Makrayu Health Center with a sample of 108 respondents spread across 7 villages and determined by proportional random sampling. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with Chi Square test and significance value (0.05) and presented in table and narrative form. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between the incidence of diarrhea and clean water sources p-value (0.007), the physical quality of clean water p-value (0.007), SPAL p-value (0.001), exclusive breastfeeding p-value (0.000) and there was no significant relationship between the incidence of diarrhea and the source of drinking water p-value (0.552), bacteriological quality of clean water p-value (0.091), ownership of a latrine p-value (0.063), type of latrine use p-value (0.091), and waste disposal facilities p-value (0.165). It was concluded that there is a significant relationship between the quality of clean water, SPAL, and exclusive breastfeeding with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers. The suggestion is that the intensity of exclusive breastfeeding and improving basic sanitation in the Ilir Barat II District need to be a concern in reducing the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers.
