Abstract :
One source of antioxidants is phycocyanin from the microalga Spirulina platensis which has pharmacological activity as a natural antioxidant. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of phycocyanin from Spirulina platensis microalgae in vitro using the DPPH and FRAP methods. Based on the results of this study, the antioxidant activity of the positive control of vitamin C have IC50 was 8,1069 mg/L and the in-vitro antioxidant activity of phycocyanin using the DPPH method obtained have IC50 of 230,303 mg/L and the results of the phycocyanin antioxidant activity test of the FRAP method obtained results IC50 of 2951,176 mg/L with a FeSO4.7H2O comparison IC50 value of 169,11 mg/L. The results of the personal correlation test analysis with a significance value of 0.00 and Pearson correlation > 0.05 stated that there was a perfect correlation between the concentration and the percent value of inhibition. The results of the Independent T-Test analysis with p> 0.05 stated that there was a significant mean difference between the results of the antioxidant activity of the DPPH method and the FRAP method. The conclusion of this study is that phycocyanin from Spirulina platensis microalgae by DPPH method and FRAP method contains weak antioxidant activity.
