Abstract :
Watermelon plant is a horticultural commodity that comes from the gourd family (Cucurbitaceae) which has high economic value. This study aims to evaluate the suitability of overflow type C tidal land in Damar Wulan Village, Air Salek District with watermelon (Citrullus vulgaris) cultivation. The method used in this study is using field survey methods and observations in the laboratory. Soil sampling points were taken using a random system of three samples on each tertiary plot, totaling eight plots with a land area of 2 hectares on each plot using a belgi drill and then composited. The implementation of this research was carried out in several stages including initial preparation, field activities, analysis in the laboratory and data analysis. The results obtained from the actual land suitability level in Damar Wulan village, namely S3 (Marginal Compatibility) with land quality wa (Water Availability), rc (Rooting Media), nr (Harry Retention), and na (Nisturate Availability) with rainfall limiting factors, pH, soil texture, P2O5, and N-Total. After being given input for improvement by making irrigation and drainage, liming, adding organic matter, and fertilizing with high level management so that the land suitability class rises two levels higher (++) to S1 (very suitable). Efforts can be made to increase each limiting factor such as liming to neutralize acidic soil, adding organic matter, fertilizing using NPK fertilizer which is useful for increasing nutrient value in the soil, and making drip irrigation which is useful for maintaining soil moisture.
