Abstract :
The objective of this research is to develope the emperical mathematical model for the effect of feed rate and grit size in sanding process on surface roughness of Petanang wood using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). Feed rate and grit size were used as independent variables while the surface roughness responses were choosen as dependent variables. After sanding process, surface roughness of Petanang wood such as Ra, Rq, and
Rk, were measured by using Surface Roughness Tester Accretech Handysurf type E-35 A/E. From the results of the modelling, it can be shown that the greater the grit size being used, the smoother the surface of wood. On the other hand, the greater the feed rate, the rougher the surface of wood.
