Abstract :
Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is the main food commodity in Indonesia, because most of the Indonesian population is the staple food of rice. One of the important diseases in rice plants is blast disease caused by the fungus Pyricularia oryzae Cav.. Anabaena azollae who live in the tissue leaves Azolla sp. can release toxic compounds. This research was conducted in November 2017 - April 2018. The azolla collection was conducted azolla aquaculture pond of Agricultural Faculty of Sriwijaya University. Extraction of A. azollae, identification of P. oryzae fungi, and antifungal activity analysis were performed in the Laboratory of Soil Science, Biology and Soil Fertility at the Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. Methods of this research include 3 stages: Extraction of Azolla sp. which is symbiotic with Anabaena azollae, preparation of test fungi and antifungal activity analysis by disc-paper diffusion method. The data obtained in this research will be presented in descriptive form. Differences in drag zone diameter were established compared to using t test. The results of this study indicate that the extract of Azolla sp. the symbiosis with A. azollae can inhibit the growth of P. oryzae fungi by forming an inhibitory zone on the test media. Azolla extract using methanol solvent has a greater inhibition zone than those using ethyl acetate.
