Abstract :
Improved Harmony Search Algorithm (IHSA), Harmony Search Algorithm (HSA) and Genetic Algorithm (GA) have been applied to this study to extract facial features based on edges with horizontal directions. This study used 100 images from 20 different faces of the California Institute of Technology. The results show that IHSA is better in terms of accuracy, speed and performance compared to HSA and GA. IHSA has an average accuracy of 76.24501% in just 0.0718 seconds average time, HSA 75.86093% in 0.07224 seconds average time and GA 74.30174% takes an average time of 3.64858 seconds
