Abstract :
This study aims to determine the evaluation of peatlands for oil palm crops. The study was conducted at the oil palm plantation area of PT. Gading Cempaka Graha. The land area of this research is 72 ha. Sampling was done by using purposive sampling method with grouping based on plant age, that is unopened land or 0 year, palm oil plants which have not yet produced or 1 year, and palm oil plants which have produced for 5 years. Sampling was done at the depth of 30 cm. This research was conducted in March 2017 until April 2017. Observation had been done by working directly to the field using map scale 1: 11.000. Observed parameters include observations in the field and in laboratory. The parameters observed in the field are the drainage class, thickness, and peat maturity. While parameters observed in laboratory include Total Nitrogen, Available P2O5, Available K2O, pH, and CEC.The results of this study showed that land of 1 year old has an actual land suitability of S3-f with pH as limiting factor. While for land of 5 years old and unopened land have N-rf land suitability class with limiting factor of pH and peat thickness. After giving inputs such as, lime, drainage classes, and fertilizers for some samples, potential land suitability was obtained. Land 1 year old to S2-r with limiting factor of peat thickness. For unopened land and land of 5 years old, the suitability of land became N-r with limiting factor of peat thickness.
