Abstract :
Back pain is very common in dentists. There are several risk factors such as gender, non-ergonomic posture, wrong work position that affects the high incidence of back pain in the dentist group which includesdentalco-assistant student or young dentists.The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence of back pain based on risk factors in the form of gender, work position, posture and duration of work on the incidence of back pain in dentalco-assistant student at Sriwijaya University. The type of this study was observational analytical cross sectional method. The study was carried out on students of the dentalco-assistant student at Sriwijaya University in Rumah Sakit Khusus Gigi dan Mulut Provinsi Sumatera Selatan with a total of 43 people. The results showed that 23 people (48.8%) experienced lower back pain, 21 people (53.5%) who experienced neck pain and as many as 12 people (27.9%) experienced both. And there is a significant relationship between risk factors, namely sex, work position, body posture and incidence of back pain with p <0.05 while for the risk factors of work duration and incidence of back pain there is no significant relationship with p value> 0.05 . It can be concluded that risk factors such as gender, work position, and body posture affect the incidence of back pain in the group of dental Co-assistant in Sriwijaya University, while for risk factors the duration of work does not affect the incidence of back pain.
