Abstract :
Bandung City has around 37 traditional markets spread across 30 sub-districts, but most of the market buildings have poor facilities to support the activities inside, rundown, and smelly. With these conditions, the Bandung City government plans to make the market a comfortable place and favoured by the community. One way to realise the plan is to carry out a redesign based on comfort, orderly zoning, and spatial effectiveness. Sadang Serang Market is one of the targets of the traditional market redesign plan by the Bandung City government. Space syntax is used to maximise the redesign stages of the market. In the redesign of Pasar Sadang Serang, space syntax improves the accessibility of space by optimising spatial connectivity so that dead spaces that are difficult to access can be eliminated. In addition, the distance between stalls/closes is also a point of comfort when carrying out activities in the market so that it does not seem too crowded. This market redesign also utilises the use of different floor height techniques with the aim that the movement of each floor can occur evenly and there is no selling floor that is devoid of enthusiasts. In reducing bad smells, which are the main problem of every traditional market, an open concept and minimal closed spaces are applied so that air circulation in the building moves optimally.
