Abstract :
Carbon is an essential element in a process of assimilation, carbon fixation and carbon estimation in maize. The study aims to determine the carbon stocks in maize planted in tidal wetlands village of Banyu Urip subdistrict of Tanjung Lago district Banyuasin of South Sumatra. This study was conducted in December 2013 to February 2014. Plant samples for analysis were taken at the age of 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks, 10 weeks, 12 weeks, with a plot size of 1 m x 1 m or number of 16 plants. Plant analysis performed in the laboratory of Chemistry, Biology and Soil Fertility Soil Department of the Faculty of Agriculture, University Sriwidjaya. The method used was a survey method. The result of dry weight biomass of maize plants in tidal swamp Banyuasin Regency at Banyu urip Village 2 weeks which were obtained (0,047 tons/ha ; 0,018 tons/ha) showed that the biomass of maize continue to increase with the aging of the plant up to 12 weeks (67,49 tons/ha ; 28, 10 tons/ha). The results of these calculations showed that the amount of biomass and carbon contained in the maize crop depended on the age of the plant. The older age of the plant would show the higher the number the biomass and carbon stored in the plant stem.
