Abstract :
Composite is a material formed from a combination of two or more molding materials and has different properties from the constituent components. The use of composites has grown rapidly because the composite has its own advantages compared to other alternative techniques one of which is a sandwich composite. To determine the characteristics of the sandwich composite to be made, the main factors to consider are the matrix, reinforcement, filler, skin and core used. This comparison can be shown in the form of skin thickness with the variation of skin used is 2.3 and 4 layers. Based on the research that has been done, the result of experimental test of sandwich composite made with VARI (Vacuum Assisted Resin Infusion) method with standard reference specimen used is ASTM C393 and tested by 3 - point bending method. In the result of 3 bending test result obtained the result of bending strength value increased along with the increase of skin thickness equal to 11,11% between skin 2 and 4 layer, with value 24,22 MPa For variation of 4 layer skin and 21,53 MPa for variation of skin 2 layer. So also with the shear strength value of the cores have increased along with the increasing number of skins.
