Abstract :
The use of sorghum straw waste in the form of silage was an efficiency step to overcome the shortage of grass production, especially in the dry season. Good processing of sorghum straw silage can be seen from physical qualities such as smell, color, texture and palatability of silage in livestock. The aim of this study was to study the response of palatability and physical quality test of sorghum straw silage in Bali cattle. This research was conducted from July to September 2017 at the Animal Husbandry Study Program Experimental Field Cage Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. Sorghum midrib was used as silage and tested for physical quality and palatability response in Bali cattle. The data obtained for palatability testing are descriptive statistics and processed non parametric. The observed parameters this study were smell, color and texture. The results obtained from this study ware. the smell of silage produced from sorghum straw smells sour, the texture of silage of sorghum straw was medium textured, and the color of silage produced by sorghum straw was brownish green. Palatability test of silage of sorghum straw could be described descriptively that silage of sorghum straw in this study has good physical quality and palatability.
