Abstract :
Background: Reaction time is the time difference between someone?s response to the stimulus given. The efficient time reaction plays an important role as a first step in the decision-making process. While doing the executive function, the length of sleep duration is recognized to affect an appropriate motor response. This research aims to find out how long sleep duration can affect the time of visual reaction under physical stress condition. Method: This research is a quasi-experimental research. The sample of this study is preclinical students of Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University (FK UNSRI) aged 18-25 years who do not consume alcohol, left-handed, smokers, or have cardiovascular disease. Subjects (N=57) filled out questionnaires about the duration of sleep for seven days using a format adapted from the National Sleep Foundation, followed by a step test, and a test of visual reaction time using the Human BenchMark application. Result: The majority (74%) of the subjects did not have adequate sleep duration with an average of 6 hours 21 minutes per day Insignificant relationship between sleep duration and time of visual reaction under physical stress (p=0.530; r=0.085). Conclusion: The sleep duration of pre-clinic students in a sub-maximum physical stress condition is not enough to affect the visual reaction time.
