Abstract :
Welding is the process of connecting materials between two or more parts using heat energy. In welding there are many changes in mechanical properties, especially welding in aluminum alloys. The aluminum used in the welding process this time is the 5083 series aluminum using GTAW welding. The parameters used in this welding use a variation of electric current that is equal to 150A, 170A, and 190A in order to get the most optimum current for welding aluminum 5083. The results obtained after the welding process that is the value of the tensile strength produced increases according to the current given . The highest average tensile strength value is at 190 A current which is equal to 122,298 N/mm2. In hardness testing, the weld area is tested into 3 parts, namely weld area, heat affected area and base area or not heat affected. The base metal area is the area with the highest hardness value among other welding areas because in the base metal area, the metal is not affected by heat at all during the welding process. The highest average value of hardness is also present at 190 A, which is 61,281 BHN. In testing of the Micro Structure the results obtained are in the HAZ region which is owned at 190 A current variations have more Mg2Si compounds compared to the others.
