Abstract :
This study aims to determine the effect of the numbers of wick on the use of water and the yield of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) in capillary irrigation systems. The research had been conducted from October 2017 until January 2018 at the greenhouse and the Biosystem Laboratory of Agricultural Technology Department, Agricultural Faculty, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. This study used a non factorial randomized block design method. The treatments used was the number of wick consisting of 5 levels, 1 wick, 2 wicks, 3 wicks, 4 wicks and 5 wicks, each level was repeated three times. The research parameters of the study consisted of water use, weight of fresh yield, weight of dry yield, and weight of dry root. Capillary irrigation systems with 4 wicks was treatments that meet the best irrigation water requirements. The capillary irrigation system with 4 wicks had produced water use, weight of fresh yield, weight of dry yield, and weight of dry root of 96.58 ml, 44.88 g, 4.22 g and 0.26 g, respectively.
