Abstract :
Cancer pain is an unpleasant sensory or emotional experience as a result from actual or functional tissue damage and side effects of therapies. The obstacles encountered in the implementation of pain management include the lack of knowledge and ability of the patients to cope with pain independently. A Website-based Pro-self pain control is an alternative method used to improve the ability of patients to cope with pain independently. The benefit of website-based intervention allows patients with cancer pain to practice self-management and nurses can support patients remotely. This study aimed to determine the effect of website-based pro self pain control on pain scale in cancer patients. This is a quantitative quasi experimental research with one group pretest-posttest design. Sampling technique was conducted using a non-probability sampling method with a purposive sampling technique with a total sample of 23 respondents. Data were collected by measuring the pain scale of cancer patients before and after a website-based pro-pain control intervention using the Brief Pain Inventory questionnaire. The statistical test used was the Wilcoxon alternative test because the data were not normally distributed. The statistical test results showed the value of p = 0.001, the average pain decreased from 4.7 ± 0.19 to 2.2 ± 0.13. There was a significant difference between the pain scale of pretest and posttest cancer patients with a p value of 0.001 (p <0.05). Website-based pro self pain control is an effective intervention to help patients with cancer manage their pain obtain the knowledge, skills and nursing support. The results of this study can be used as an alternative for cancer patients to use a website containing information about pain and applied pro-self pain control interventions as pain relief therapy.
