Abstract :
Background: Gingival pigmentation is color alteration of gingiva caused by melanin, which produced by melanocytes. Etiologic factors of gingival pigmentation consisted by genetic factors, local, and systemic factors. One of the local factors of gingival pigmentation was smoking habit. The liquid content in e-cigarettes could cause gingival pigmentation. Objectives: To determine the description of gingival pigmentation in electric smokers. Materials and Methods: This research was a descriptive survey with design cross sectional approach. The subjects of this vape community in Palembang were 35 respondents using consecutive sampling and quota sampling technique. The research instrument used a questionnaire on google form to observe the gingival pigmentation. Results: The frequency distribution of gingival pigmentation was 82.9% of respondents experienced gingival pigmentation and 17.1% of respondents did not experience gingival pigmentation. Conclusion: Electric smokers with gingival pigmentation were 29 out of 35 respondents. It was found that users of e-cigarettes only and e-cigarettes with conventional in this study were not statistically different.
