Abstract :
Cyclone separator is a device for separating solid particles and fluids. There are several
ways that can improve cyclone performance, one of which is modification by adding
cyclone with a smaller geometry size to obtain more efficient performance. In this study,
one cyclone with a smaller geometry was added to the main cyclone and used one type of
particle, namely coconut shell powder. Where in this study varied the velocity of inlet air
flow by 7 m / s, 10 m / s, and 15 m / s and variations in the particle size of coconut shells
used mesh numbers 80, 100, and 120. This experiment was carried out to determine the
precipitated mass and wasted mass as well as the percentage of performance efficiency of
dual cyclone separators against particle size. From the results of the tests carried out, the
variation in particle velocity and size greatly affects the efficiency of particle separation,
where the higher velocity of air entry and the larger the particle size, the greater the
efficiency of the separation that occurs. In this test the highest efficiency value occurred
at a mesh particle size of 80 at a speed of 15 m/s with an efficiency value of 98.33%.
