Abstract :
Bottom sediments have an important role as a habitat for living things, determining the waves characteristics, waters turbidity and waters contruction information. Sedimets type determination is using acoustic method. The main goal of this study with Echosounder SIMRAD EK 15 200 kHz frequency wis to determine basic relationship between surface backscattering strength and the types of sediments. This study was conducted in Banyuasin estuary from October 2018 untill January 2019. The results showed a relationship type of sediments and backscattering strength was 0,76 based on R2 value. SS values for each sediment type are sand clayyed -16.23 dB, Clay -24.09 dB to -21,29 dB. silty clay -17,88 dB to -15,54 dB, and sandy clayyed -16.89 dB. It means acoustics backscattering strength could describe the type of bottom sediments.
