Abstract :
Detergent is a raw material that is widely used in home industry that will be continuously used by the community in line with the increasing number of population and the widespread industrial activity. LAS is the main cleaning agent surfactant present in the detergent. Pollution from Waste LAS can negatively impact on the network of organisms, especially fish that is on the gill tissue so it needs to be tested toxicity. The purpose of this study was to analyze the toxic effects of LAS surfactant on the survival of test seed seeds with different concentrations, to determine the tolerable levels of LAS surfactant and to analyze gill damage from LAS surfactant to test seed seeds. This research was conducted in December 2016 - January 2017. Toxicity test of LAS surfactant to tested fish seed was done by laboratory experimental method, while histology test of gill test with paraffin and Hematoxilin Eosin (HE) staining method. The results showed that LAS had a toxic effect on the survival of Red Snapper (Lutanussp) seeds and gave the effect of damage to gill histology. The level of LAS surfactant that can be tolerated by the test seed is not more than 10% of the LC50 value of 3.303 mg / l.The most severe gill damage was at the highest concentration of 99.98 mg / l which had reached necrosis. Gill tissue damage increases with increasing concentrations of LAS surfactants.
