Abstract :
Stunting can cause children to lose IQ of 5-11 points, Stunting in infants can
inhibit a child's development, with negative impacts that will take place in the next
life such as intellectual decline, susceptibility to non-communicable diseases,
decreased productivity so that it can cause poverty. Malnutrition problems mostly
occur in poor families, but it is undeniable that poor families have well-nourished
children. This study aims to determine the description of the positive deviance
behavior of mothers and the incidence of stunting of preschool children from
underprivileged families in Pelajau Ulu Village, Banyuasin III District,
Banyuasin Regency. This study uses a qualitative method. Information was
collected through in-depth interviews with 6 informants namely mothers who have
children aged 24-60 months from underprivileged families divided into 2 groups:
3 mothers who have normal height children and 3 mothers who have stunting
children, and 2 key informants namely the village midwife Pelajau Ulu, who then
then analyzed the data using qualitative analysis techniques and presented in the
form of tables and narratives. Research Results: Shows that in children under five
who are of normal normal height, mothers have positive deviance behavior in the
form of feeding habits, hygiene habits and good care habits. Whereas toddlers
who are stunting from underprivileged families have unfavorable habits that
directly or indirectly affect the nutritional status of these toddlers. Conclusion:
Mothers who have normal height children and good nutritional status have
positive deviance behavior in the form of feeding habits, hygiene and care for
children who are very good and compared to mothers who have toddlers with
stunting and malnutrition despite their origin from underprivileged families
