Abstract :
This study aims to describe the anxiety experienced of main character in novel Cahaya Palestine by Vanny Chrisma W and novel Reem by Sinta Yudisia. Based on analysis of the two novels, the main character?s anxiety was included: (a) anxiety forms, (b) anxiety symptoms, (c) anxiety-causing factors, and (d) defense mechanisms for anxiety. Anxiety analysis in both novels uses descriptive method with literary psychology approach. This study also describes the implications of educational values of the main characters in dealing and overcoming their anxiety. The two main characters of the novel experienced same forms of anxiety, include: (1) anxiety of reality, (2) neurosis anxiety, and (3) moral anxiety. Symptoms of the anxiety, include: (1) physical symptoms (2) behavioral symptoms and (3) cognitive symptoms. Factors that cause the anxiety, include: (1) family environmental factors (2) suppressed emotions and (3) physical causes. The defense mechanisms of main character in novel Cahaya Palestine against the anxiety, include: (1) diversion, (2) isolation, (3) aggression, and (4) apathy. The defense mechanisms of Reem's main characters, include: (1) sublimation, and (2) apathy. The implications about the educational value of the character in novel Cahaya Palestine dealt and overcomed his anxiety, include: (1) self-reliance, (2) love of the homeland, and (3) the spirit of nationalism. The implications about the education value of the character in novel Reem dealt and overcomed his anxiety, include: (1) religious, (2) independent, (3) love of the homeland, (4) friendly, (5) love to read, and (6) social care.
