Abstract :
The main goal upon this research is to describe student’s ability to comprehend the
mathematics concept that they have base upon the procedural knowledge.
The usage of this research is as an input for teachers to take some certain steps to
increase the comprehension upon the concept of Junior High School student based upon the
procedural knowledge. The research has been done to St Joseph’s Catholic Junior High
School of Naikoten Kupang, in thirty students and the main subjects for the research are three
students.
The output of the research is showing that the junior high school student’s ability on
comprehend the mathematics concept as the procedural knowledge will be as follow:
ï‚· Students with a high capability to comprehend of mathematics concept are able to solve
the problem according to the procedural knowledge quickly accurate.
ï‚· As well as the student with an average capability to comprehend of mathematics concept
are having very well absorb capability and always take the shortcut to reach the problem
either verbally or in written. Hence it can be told that students with high and mid-level
capability in terms of problem solving upon the round-number is turning out more than
well due to their ability to solve the problem of four indicators upon the procedural
knowledge.
ï‚· Meanwhile for the students with the low-level capability upon the comprehension of
mathematics concept especially in solving problem for the integer with the procedural
knowledge, some subjects are incapable to solve the entire three indicators of the
procedural knowledge.
Based upon the result of this research, it is expected that mathematics teacher of St Joseph
Junior High School of Naikoten Kupang, is increasing the student’s capability in solving
problem by make student to becoming more habitual with some practice or any kind
questions that is given. With the vary capabilities by the student, hence there are some special
attention or more that is need to be done especially to those with the low-level capability in
order to able to hold responsible the result to anyone as well as they can easily comprehend
upon the material questions that they are facing with.
