Abstract :
Basically the purpose of the implementation of education is to humanize humans, which operationally can be done through a learning process. However, learning mathematics is still considered to be difficult and unpleasant. This can result in low achievement of students learning mathematics. To overcome the problem that there can be used a model problem based learning. This learning model uses real problems as a context for students to learn critical thinking and problem solving skills. The problem in this study was formulated as follows: "is there a difference in learning achievement of students taught math by a model of problem based learning and conventional learning on the subject of sub cubes and blocks of class VIII SMPK Giovanni Kupang 2013/2014 school year?" To answer this problem used quantitative research with experimental methods. The population in this research that SMPK eighth grade students in academic year 2013/2014 Giovanni Kupang. The samples in this study were students of class VIIIA as classes taught by problem-based learning models that were 30 and VIIIC graders as a class taught by the conventional model with a number of 29 people. Based on the results of post-test data analysis and discussion, obtained significance value 2.002465). Departing from the explanation above, we conclude that there is a difference in learning achievement of students taught math by a model of problem based learning and conventional learning on the subject of sub cubes and beams SMPK eighth grade school year 2013/2014 Kupang Giovanni
