Abstract :
Manganese oxide nanoparticle was synthesized from Sumbawa?s manganese ore. The objectives of this research were to examine the effect of temperature on the type, size and shape of nanoparticle manganese oxide. Overall, there were two steps in this research; extraction of the manganese ore and synthesis of nanoparticle manganese oxides. Hydrometallurgy process was used in the first step, extraction, wherein H2SO4 and H2O2 were used as solvent in this process. Synthesis of nanoparticle manganese oxides was performed by hydrothermal at 90 °C, 120 °C and 150 °C for 18 h using NaOH as a precipitating agent. XRD analysis results showed single phase Mn3O4 was obtained after hydrothermal process. Moreover, the crystallite size of nanoparticle Mn3O4 decreased with increasing temperature of hydrothermal. These results were confirmed by SEM observation, wherein the particle size of Mn3O4 decreased with increasing temperature. Furthermore, almost perfect spherical shape was obtained for the nanoparticle Mn3O4 synthesis at 150 °C. In summary, temperature is imperative to obtain nanoparticle Mn3O4 with very fine in size and spherical shape as the characteristic.
