Abstract :
Writing is an act of communication, it is considered as a skill that needs study and practice to be developed. The researcher was interested in analyzing the students? skill in paraphrasing of sixth semester students of the English Study Program at University of Pasir Pengaraian in paraphrasing of report texts. The purpose of this study was to determine the students? skill in paraphrasing of report texts in the sixth semester of the English Study Program at University of Pasir Pengaraian. The methodology of this research was descriptive quantitative. Descriptive quantitative research was an approach for testing objective theories and describing the phenomenon. The sample were 28 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used writing test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used the components in paraphrasing they are: Quality, Conciseness, Linguistic Reformulation, Lnguage Use and Citation. The research finding showed that the students? skill in paraphrasing of report text in the sixth semester of English Study Program at University of Pasir Pengaraian was with a score of 10,32 in the poor level. 3 students (11%) had the good level, 11 students (39%) had the fair level, 10 students (36%) had poor level, 4 students (14%) had very poor level. This mean that students? paraphrasing skill was very low. They needed a lot of practice in order to develop their paraphrasing skills.
