Abstract :
The purpose of this research was to find out the students strategies in
challenges improving their speaking skill at English study program of university
of pasir pengaraian. The data analysis technique used by this researcher is
descriptive qualitative
The data which was gained taken from the students English study program
uviversitas of pasir pengaraian There were 2 instruments were used in collecting
the data. There were questionnaire and interview. The population of the study
consisted of 123 students. This researcher used a sample of 25 students, the
purpose of providing a questionnaire and interview to find out what strategies and
challenges were biased towards improving their English speaking skills.
The finding of the research in the questionnaire and interview in the
student strategies to improving speaking skill is Speaking Experience, Personal
Experience, Club & Organization, Library and Art & Music Activities, Watching
Film, Listening Music. In the speaking strategies the student mostly used is
Speaking Experience with total 20 students used this strategies. Then the finding
of the research in the questionnaire and interview in the student challenges to
improving speaking skill is Lack of Vocabulary, Lack of Confident, Nervousness,
Lack of motivation, Excessive Grammar and Pronunciation difficulties. The
mostly is Lack of Vocabulary with total 20 students used challenge speaking skill.
