Abstract :
The purpose of this research is to find out Lecturer?s strategies in encouraging student?s motivation to speak English at English study Program University of Pasir Pengaraian. There was one variable used in this research, namely lecturer?s strategies in encouraging students? motivation. The subject of this research was the lecturer of English study program at University of Pasir Pengaraian, while the objective of this research was to find out what are the strategies of the lecturers in encouraging students? motivation to speak English at English Study Program University of Pasir Pengaraian. This research was a descriptive qualitative study. There were three lecturers as samples chosen by using purposive sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher did the interview which consisted of 4 question statements that was constructed based on the indicators. The researcher used descriptive analyzes to analyze the data. The result of this research showed that lecturers need to ask student with easy question before start the class to motivate them to speak English. Students have to speak English in the area of English study program. Students have to make a summary for English subject and explain in front of the class and have to speak English all the time 100 % in the class. In conclusion the students need motivation to solve problems in speaking so that they get hard to mastering speaking skill.
