AbstractIn Indonesian language, there are idioms which are expressions of language whose meaning cannot be explained from the sum of the meanings of each element. The use of idioms cannot be directly understood in its lexical meaning. This research discusses the analysis of the translation of Indonesian idioms in the novel Laut Bercerita. This research is a qualitative research with descriptive analysis. This study aims to find out what techniques are used by the translator when translating Indonesian idioms as the source language into English as the target language, as well as analyzing whether there is equivalence of meaning and shape shifting to maintain equivalence of meaning.
